MARY ROSE COMMISSION

COMMISSION FROM THE MARY ROSE MUSEUM, PORTSMOUTH, UK
TO MAKE A TACTILE COPY OF THE 16th CENTURY ANTHONY ROLL
PAINTING OF HENRY VIII's MARY ROSE WARSHIP.

Extract from letter from the Chief Executive of the Mary Rose Trust,  Rear Admiral John Lippiett CB MBE

"It is a joy to behold for someone blessed with good eyesight, but to see the absolute pleasure it brought Charlie as he felt his way across it was wonderful.   You have fulfilled your remit to the full, and the Mary Rose Trust is delighted to become the first museum to hang out one of your works.  I believe that this is a notable and exciting advance in the way in which we reach our audiences. You must be very proud of your latest work, and rightly so.  Thank you, and congratulations."     18th September 2007

Prior to handing over the commission, 3 of my grandchildren (Hannah-Mae, Sam and Rhiannon) were
asked to paint the final touches to individual flags.  The Mary Rose Museum is part of their heritage and,
for this reason, I felt it to be very important that they place their mark on this historic painting.
